Godwoken One

Hunted for your Source, called by the Gods: become Divine or fall to the Void.

In the medieval fantasy world of Rivellon, the Godwoken is a persecuted user of Source magic and the pivotal figure in the fight against the Voidwoken. Originally released for Windows in September 2017 as Divinity: Original Sin II by Larian Studios, this title casts players as a Sourcerer who must navigate a world where their very existence attracts monstrous creatures from the Void. Whether played alone or cooperatively with up to three others, the Godwoken begins on the prison island of Reaper's Eye, escaping the brutal regime of Bishop Alexandar and his Magisters to answer a summons from one of the Seven deities.

Lore & Background

Centuries after Lucian, the previous Divine, passed away, Rivellon is plagued by Voidwoken who attack all living things. Sourcerers, born with the talent to manipulate Source energy, are feared and reviled because their power attracts these monsters. The Divine Order, led by Alexandar (Lucian's son) and his advisor Dallis, hunts them down, sending prisoners to Fort Joy on Reaper's Eye where they are frequently 'purged' of their Source into mindless husks. The Godwoken is rescued from drowning after a Kraken Voidwoken sinks their transport ship, saved by a mysterious force that calls them 'Godwoken.' In the Hall of Echoes, one of the Seven reveals that the Veil separating Rivellon from the Void is weakening. The deity explains that the Seven are actually Eternals who betrayed their own species to become gods, and urges the Godwoken to ascend to Divinity to hold back the Void before it kills them all.

In Their Own Story

The journey begins on the ship Merryweather as the player character, a Sourcerer, is captured by the Divine Order. After a Kraken Voidwoken sinks the vessel, the Godwoken awakens in Fort Joy prison. Escaping the Magisters' regime of purging prisoners, the Godwoken meets the Seekers and visits the Hall of Echoes, where they learn of their destiny to become Divine. With help from the half-demon Malady and the Seekers, they defeat Alexandar, steal his sentient ship, the Lady Vengeance, and flee Reaper's Eye despite an attack by Dallis and her right-hand man Vredeman that kills most of the Seekers. Sailing to Reaper's Coast, the Godwoken unlocks their Source powers and is directed to the Well of Ascension. There, they learn about Aeterna, a member of the Eternals, who reveals the Seven were originally Eternals who banished their kin to the Void before posing as deities to rule over mortal races.

Reader's Guide

Players control a Godwoken starting in Fort Joy, choosing from six pre-made characters with unique backstories or creating a custom character. The game features turn-based tactical combat using an action-point system, allowing multiple actions per turn. Players can recruit up to three companions from the six origin characters (Beast, Fane, Ifan ben-Mezd, Lohse, Red Prince, Sebille) or hire silent NPCs later; pre-made companions react dynamically to choices and have unique dialogue options and sidequests. The system supports race variations including Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and Lizards, both living and undead, each influencing NPC behavior. Combat utilizes environmental elements like water, ice, oil, and fire for strategic advantage, alongside a physical and magic armor system that must be depleted before health damage occurs. The game offers online and local cooperative multiplayer for up to four players, as well as competitive arena modes.
