Lore & Background

The world of Rivellon is governed by the struggle between benevolent Source magic associated with the goddess Astarte and the corrupting influence of the Void. The Source Hunters, protagonists of the game, are revealed to be reincarnations of two ancient generals who once imprisoned Source corruption inside an artifact called 'the God Box.' Their memories were stripped as penance for failing to stop a demonic being named 'the Trife' from opening the box. Throughout their journey, they encounter magical crystals known as 'Star Stones,' which are crystallized fragments of these lost memories. The Immaculates, led by Leandra (also known as the Conduit), seek to unleash the Void Dragon upon the world by mining toxic tenebrium in the Luculla Mines and creating indestructible Death Knights.

In Their Own Story

The Source Hunters begin their adventure in Cyseal, a port town under siege by orcs and undead. They discover the murder of a town councilor was orchestrated by the Immaculates, who are linked to the White Witch Icara. After freeing Icara from a block of ice in Hiberheim, they learn she accidentally killed the councilor but joins forces with them against Leandra. The hunters follow clues to Hunter's Edge and the Phantom Forest, finding directions left by the wizard Zandalor leading to an ancient Source Temple. Inside, they confront Leandra in the First Garden via the Homestead fortress. Depending on prior actions, they either restore the 'soulforge' between the sisters or kill Leandra. Ultimately, they join Astarte to banish the Void Dragon back into the God Box, with Astarte remaining to guard it eternally.

Reader's Guide

Players control two Source Hunters in single-player mode or split control between two players in co-op. The game features turn-based combat and an interactive world where choices matter significantly. Key mechanics include investigating crimes, battling Death Knights created from tenebrium and Source magic, and collecting Star Stones to unlock memories and access the Homestead. Players must decide whether to ally with Icara or pursue Leandra's redemption. The narrative culminates in a choice to restore the sisters' connection or defeat Leandra, followed by a final battle against the Void Dragon summoned by the Trife. Success depends on uncovering evidence of the Immaculates' plans and utilizing the fail-safe found in the Luculla Mines to weaken Death Knights.
